Dear Col. Ward:

I am very distressed to find that in spite of the steps my

husband took to make the Mui-Tsai system illegal in Hongkong that

it is still being practised there, as instanced at the meeting of

the Anti-Slavery Assn. in London on March 7th. last

As you will remember you brought this matter up in Parliament when

my husband laid all the papers before you and I should indeed be

grateful if you could take some steps to have the law enforced in

Hongkong in accordance with the Statute passed by Mr. Churchill

making child-slavery illegal.

Is there anything I can do?

My husband had this matter so much at heart. As you know if he

were alive he would never let the matter rest until the law was

rigidly adhered to.

Will you let me hear from you?

With kind regards, and

sincerely hoping you have recovered your health.

Yours sincerely,

d

Ellen on, Cartirique?

wife of the late H. A. Cartwright, of

The Hongkong Daily Press.
